Caras de Nicaragua
Cabin Coffee Espresso
September 17, 2006 - October 8, 2006
While I appreciate all forms of fine art photography, the portrait interests me the most. A portrait can capture the essence of an individual, revealing a lifetime of experience in a single image. The portrait can also evoke strong emotions in the viewer. Each observer relates to the subject(s) in a different way, calling on their own feelings and memories. As a photographer, I hope to capture something genuine and convey my sense of the subject.
This series of images was captured on a recent photography expedition to Nicaragua. While I took all kinds of photographs (landscapes, architecture, etc.), the portraits seem to convey the truest sense of what I experienced in Nicaragua. The Nicaraguans are proud, generous, joyful, and kind. Despite their recent history of war and economic hardship, the people I enountered seemed hopeful and resilient.
The photographs in this series were captured with a Canon 350D. Each image is printed on Fujicolor Crystal Archive matte paper, after making subtle adjustments to contrast and color balance.
